Kirstie Alley’s children have reported that the actress passed away following a just-disclosed cancer struggle.
Following the news of her passing, Alley’s close friend John Travolta paid the actress tribute on social media.
With her breakthrough performance as Rebecca Howe on NBC’s Cheers, Alley first rose to stardom in 1987.
For her performance in the sitcom, she won a Golden Globe for best actress in 1991 as well as an Emmy for outstanding lead actress. She won her second Emmy in 1994 for her portrayal as Sally Goodson in David’s Mother.
Her life was documented in 2010 in the A&E reality television programme Kirstie Alley’s Big Life. She also took part in Dancing with the Stars season 12 competition.
