The AFL have announced today that the Aboriginal flag will not be painted onto the centre circle for this year’s Indigenous round.
The 2020 Toyota Sir Doug Nicholls Round will be a true celebration of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and their contribution – past, present and future – to Australian Football.#AFLDeadly pic.twitter.com/uzp4W9vRgA

Instead the word ‘Deadly’ will be painted onto the centre circle.
The loss of flags presence comes down to copyright issues. WAM Clothing have owned the rights to the flag since 1971.
The company has responded to the AFL’s decision by saying they would only charge royalties if the flag is used on any clothing that is sold.
